The property has a long history in Dar es Salaam. Originally constructed by the Tanzanian government in 1965, it was acquired by its current ownership interests in 2002 and subsequently underwent a major renovation before reopening in 2005. Hyatt began managing the property as Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam, The Kilimanjaro on 1 August 2011, making it the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Tanzania.
